    Bow sight question

I've seen alot of stick slingers with sights that extend off the riser quite a ways. Meaning away from the shooter. Question is why? Does help you be more accurate or give a better sight picture?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I move mine out/in so the OD of the sight lines up perfectly with the id of my peep sight at full draw for another reference point, if that makes sense.

i have a spot hog hogg it that is a dove tail and like mentioned above it is easier to align the rings on the sight to your peep. some will say its a rifle versus pistol affect that the further the distance the better your aim i dont know about that

It increases your sight radius, meaning stuff you can see around your pins. Also it widens your pin gap, so you can be more precise with your set up, and see more between the pins. And it is easier to get a single sight picture, by matching the pin housing to the peep size, without having to search for the right size.

Pin acquisition is a little easier IMO because when you draw and ok through your peep, if everything is consistent, then all you see is your pins. If any part is blocked by the pin housing ring, you can adjust accordingly, then aim and shoot.

i like my dovetail because it acts as a stabalizer and increased my accuracy a perty geed amount.

Good info - I use it for lining up the OD with the peep and pin acquisition as well. Another big reason it is I'm a little far sighted but have perfect distance vision. The further the site is out the less power I need on a verifier. The higher the verifier power the more it distorts the distance vision (target)

It does help with sight picture and peep align ment, and it's a nice feature for sure!

But it also magnifies torque, especially riser torque from pulling into the wall. Find a happy medium. The spot hogg hogg it with the full extension is very nice!

It is the same principle as open sights on a handgun versus a long rifle. The further apart the front and rear sight are the more accurate the weapon is.

Same thing between your sight housing and your peep.

You also have the ability to fine tune the peep around the housing as mentioned above.

I totally agree, the farther the sight is the bow the more accurate and better sight pic.

Are there any advantages to having it closer in. If it is better farther out why don't they make them adjustable?

Lineman they make all kinds for all kinds of reasons. It depends on what you expect from your sight (read bow). If you are happy shooting okay groups then all you need is gear that works okay. If you demand tight groups you need to buy gear that will help you get there. That MAY include a sight that gives you a long sight radius.

thank you . i was just curious. my sights have 3 sets of holes to move it in or out i was wondering why if farther out would provide the best accuracy.

I'm using my first dovetail and liking it so far.
