My friend's son is trying to figure out what's type of arrow to shoot to kill elk. His draw weight is 72, length is 28 1/2. He's shooting Easton Flatline 400s, but I'm thinking he should probably be shooting 340s?

FMJs are good. Easton makes some other heavy arrows as well. CE Pile Drivers are nice and heavy.
If you want a heavy carbon arrow go with CE Hunter KVs (9.8gpi) or Goldtip Kinetic Pros (9.5gpi). I just bought the KVs but haven't had a chance to shoot them yet..
Or check out Grizzly Sticks, they are wicked heavy, like 16+ gpi.. They'll go through anything, but they're logs lol

I have tried the Grizzly Stiks they are heavy but they fly great. And heavy is the point, they will go through anything. Mine seem to fly best with either a 175 gr. or 200 gr. broadhead. Still working on making my mind up between the two. Probably will settle on the 175 grain tip. No mechanical broadhead on an elk hunt. I want as little chance of a failure as possible.

See I keep telling this kid that, but he WON'T listen! He has an HHA 1 pin sight and seems to refuse to change arrows as that will mean he'll have to resight his bow. He pulls 72 lbs and told me he shot a doe at 13 yrds and didn't get a pass through. I shoot Flatlines 500s and have had pass throughs on ALL my whitetail, except for hogs, but they're built like tanks.
