    Arrow Selection???

As you can tell by my post Im looking at switching to a Bowtech Insanity CPXL @ 70#. My draw is 30in. I am looking for a mid to heavy arrow setup(500-600 range) with a high FOC. From the looks I will be changing to a stiffer spine, 300. I normally shoot the Axis arrow.

I am putting this together for Western Hunting. Mule Deer, Elk, longer shots on bigger game.

    Heres my questions.

Anyone with a similar setup? Opinions? Point Weight, 100 or 125? and can you calculate FOC without measuring the arrow? maybe a chart?

Easton FMJ w/ 125-150g head.. should be good to go. Its better to get foc by measuring arrow and doing the math urself.

your going to need the physical arrow to calculate foc but a really easy way to bump it is to shoot the lightest nock you can find and fletch with feathers instead of vanes. there are a couple of guys on here that shoot some pretty heavy arrows with good foc. what do you consider "high" foc? i'm just asking because i shoot a 440 grain set-up with 16%+.

a black eagle deep impact 300 would put you in the range you are looking at, hard to find a better arrow out there these days.

That's what I thought on the foc calculation. Anything over 15%. I'm shooting between 15 and 16% now with my EZ7.

Anyone with a insanity hunting rig? What's your setup?

just ordered the insanity cpxl last night. 70# @ 30" draw. I want to build a hunting arrow for out west on mule deer and elk. Need some advance GS. I have researched and listen for years and want a well balanced arrow. Im not sure how guys are getting 20% foc without having spine issues.

Im looking into Gold Tip Velocity or Kinetics

Thought you were wanting a heavy arrow, the velocities certainly are not that.

velocities with a heavy heavy point can be. Also the weight on a 29 or 30 inch arrow get high quick.

                    Muddy Bloodsport 1's
                    Small diameter, heavy arrow
If you opt for the steel outsert, its around 85grs

you need to tune to dynamic spine, as static spine is only a reference point. the best way to keep spine issues from developing is by turning down draw weight. the increased penetration of a heavier/higher foc set-up will offset any loss in speed by turning down draw weight.

Okay, I did some reading today on google. Yeeaaahhh......not that Im confused, just overwhelmed.

When I was asking about a well balanced arrow my non scientific mind was thinking a dynamic spine.

Anyone that did there own research?

                        Mudslinger?

I shoot 70#'s at an arrow length of 28" with a total arrow weight of 560 grains, 100 grain BH with 150 grains of Gold Tip rear insert weight for and FOC of 19%. I shoot Gold Tip 75/95 XT Hunters which are a 300 spine, but I really need a spine closer to .254 or lower. Luckily, I get mset up to tune and shoot replaceable 3 blade BH's to shoot perfectly. Best thing to do before you out buying different shafts is to buy an arrow program or find someone that has one and get them to figure what spine you will need with you set up. You will need the draw weight you are going to shoot, type of cam on the bow, arrow length and point weight. Most will be shocked at the lack of drop when you go to a heavier shaft. I am talking a lot heavier than most. The 150 grains I added were at the point of the arrow and my pins out ot 60 yards did not spread out very much. Heavier arrows will hold their speed longer than a lightweight arrow. i got lucky with mine being underspined and still tuning. You will be suprised at the accuracy and forgiveness with a high FOC and a heavier arrow.
