Agreed.. Merino wool is 100% the way to go and First Lite is a great company.. Who doesn't like ASAT?

So how should I layer with merino wool if I'm gonna be hiking up and down mountains in CO or ID?

Merino wool is great and First Lite is a great company. I did a "High Tech Hunting Duds" review at http://nolanoutdoors.webs.com/apps/blog/.

Base layer, mid layer and vest or shell and you should be good.. Base and mid layers stay the same just need to change shells for colder weather.

I have mixed matched merino wool gear, but in general I wear a light base layer, little bit thicker mid layer, then little bit thicker outer layer. Just depends on temperature/weather. May need a good jacket on top if it's drizzly. If you get hot you just start ripping layers off. With First Lite, you would want to wear the Llano, then Chama, then Labrador (if I remember all the names right). Or less if it's warmer.

I actually wore my Core4Element gear for the first time this season that I got on Camofire. I was VERY impressed. First Lite doesn't make any technical gear, like jackets, and their only pants are merino wool (which is not quite rugged enough for my hunting), so a combination of First Lite and Core4 is perfect imo.

Excellent review Leftridge....my only suggestion would be to include approximate prices for each piece of gear you mentioned. Otherwise, great review. Now I need to go see how much this stuff costs

I placed them in my wish list on Cabelas, just waiting for b-day gift cards or my next check, whichever hits first. They were all about $100 a piece except the boxers were $50, I don't know if ANY pair of boxers are worth that, but I don't make that BIG money like you

Thanks for what you do, it's a thankless profession.
