    Scent killer over rated?

I'm relatively new two hunting. I've been hunting realistically about a year. I really love hunting hogs more than anything, but do deer hunt also. My dad always seems to run into the hogs when he is just wondering around. No scent killer, no nothing. I was just wondering really if scent killer is really over rated? Is it really all about wind? Is cover sent better?

If its not over rated what do you use? How do YOU apply it?

I'm no expert, but I always wear it. I know it won't make me smell any worse to the deer, so I have nothing to lose putting it on. Also I turn my Buck Candy/corn mix bag inside out for a cover scent.

I don't use it. I just make sure I face the wind whenever I hunt.

Way over rated IMO. i make it a habit to pee out of my stand for good luck. I dump in the woods. I wear work boots. I even spit on does some times. It all depends if one peticular deer associates a smell with danger. Most deer have to keen in on 2 senses to bug out. Smell/sight, sight/hear, etc. im no deer expert but I just put # 7 in the freezer (TX and AR). And i hunt public land too.

If an animal is alert and lookin for you, no product made will work. Calm wondering around non alert animals....maybe.

I hunt wind, and will not go if conditions are wrong. Cant beat wind...EVER

I use to think it was a big deal...... My dad smokes in his tent and he kills deer every year lol... Guess he has luck!..... I just use sprays and play the wind .

Im in the final R&D phases of a cloaking device and a force field for bowhunters. Need serious investors who dont like a challenge when bowhunting. Lol .. I wear scent killer stuff, its cheap enough.

I wash my clothes with that detergent and use the body wash and sprays. But the wind is the main thing. I wouldn't waste money on the clothes tho.

                    Just my .02.

You couldn't fool a hogs nose if you were submerged in a bottle of scent killer. He better come in up wind or forget it! For deer it probably works a small percentage of the time. Maybe giving you a few extra seconds to get off a shot.

I dont believe in the clothing. I try to keep myself and clothes as scent free as possible and then hunt the wind.

I wash my hunting clothes in a detergent called Free or All I think and shower with unscented soap before going out. I have sat on the ground and had deer and hogs within 3 feet of me and they never knew I was there. The thing about not being clean and scent free is that you don't know what your not seeing. I got a buddy that smoked when he was bowhunting and I told him that and he tryed it out and started killing much bigger deer.
