    Arrow length vs spine

My set up is an athens accomplice 32 26.5"/65#. My arrows are fmj 400's cut 26 1/8 from insert to nock valley. I am gonna be shooting 125gr viper tricks. Id like to cut my arrows short as possible. With my wb, i could go to 24 3/4". How much stiffer would that 1 3/8" difference make? Thanks

Hard to say for sure. It would be stiffer than 400 without the tip but the tip may bring it into around the 400 area.

Easton measures their spine at 28" I believe

Reminds me, I need to make a spine tester!

Would spine be ok, athens tends to like a stiffer spine

Should be fine. Stiffer is always better.

You will be fine. Like said above, better to be on the stiff side.

You would be shooting closer to a 300 than 400 at that length. Add about half an inch and you are in the 340 range, which I bet shoots lights out!

With a .400 spine you really shouldn't use a broad head heavier than 100 gr. the broad head is the resistance against the arrow when shot out of the bow, so the heavier broad head will make your arrow bend surverly and you will loose KE.

                    Um.....please explain more.

I've personally seen people shoot 150 grain heads on .400s and they're pile drivers.

There's a difference between static and dynamic spine.

I guess your logic about loosing KE is over my head. Isn't it most dependent on speed and mass?

The 400 spine also allows him to get his weight on the shaft down, and in turn have more weight forward, giving him better penetration characteristics.
