    .45-70 i dont get it?

Now i no a bunch of people are going to get mad at me but why is the .45-70 so popular? I have shot probably 40 rounds of it threw a marlin. It has a good kick and i payed for both boxes of ammo and they were not cheap. Why not just shoot a .30-30? Is it about how cool it is or am i missing something?

i would love to see what that cinder block of a bullet would do to a pigs face. I take it that you are not to fond of it so would you consider selling??????

I like it them just for the fact that's what sharps rifles are based on. I don't really know much about the lever action models myself

I don't know of any .30-30 that I would want to have in my hand if I ever had to deal with a grizzly, or a bison for example. The .45-70 has even done some work in Africa. It has a lot of nostalgic value as well since its the original buffalo gun, as well as a late 1800s Military cartridge. Much like the .30-06 today. Other rounds may do it better, but its very similar to being a "one gun fits all" since you can hand load it hotter or slow it down depending on what youre after. Sure its slow, but its a bruiser of a cartridge and the wound channel it leaves is massive.

But for Texas or anything of the sort? My nod goes to the .30-30. If I wind up in Montana or Alaska, Im going with the .45-70

When you hunt with one you don't have to ask yourself "Do I have enough gun?" because you already know the answer.

Various calibers have their own cult followings--.257 Roberts, the STW family, the short magnums, etc, etc. Truth of the matter, they all kill deer and pigs and range limitations aside, it's where you shoot 'em, not what you shoot 'em with that matters most.

x2. Not to mention, my ported guide version actually kicks less than my 94 30-30 did

I have the 45-70 in a 14' inch super on my Contender. It's a hoot for sure, but I'm glad it's ported

This was my choice for bear protection in AK. Cut the barrel to 16.25 and took an inch of the stock. Brockman ghost ring sight with a tritium from blade. It's fun to shoot.
