    Help on Tripod setups/strategies!!!!!

Ive just got on a new lease. 240 acres to myself I can set up however I like. Its brush country up near Abilene. Mainly mesquite. No tall trees really. So I invested in some good tripods. One sits about 8' off the ground and the other 11' or 12' (adjustable). Ive made an attempt to set them up in a Mesquite tree to try and get some cover around me, but the deer always look straight at me when I'm in the blind. Had 2 does this evening at the feeder (20yds) and I couldn't have drawn my bow if I wanted. Never spooked em, but they faced me while they ate, and constantly look up at me. Any suggestions to help conceal me in the tripod while still have some shooting lanes? Here's a pic of one setup, the tripod is just right of the feeder in the background.

If hunts keep going this way, I'll have to look into ground blinds I suppose.

It may just look that way in the pic but further back to the left the trees look bigger and thicker!

Same thing I was thinking. If you could relocate your whole set-up to where you have some tall/thick brush to conceal your tripod you may be better off.

A little better trees but, but the conflict is on the other side of this feeder is a rifle stand about 75 yds away that was already on the property. And I want to utilize that. If I move the feeder it compromises that stand's shot. Also to the right, is where most of the trails are. And I see many deer walking those trails.

You basically have nothing in between you and the feeder. Zero back cover and nothing in front of you at ten feed off the ground is a recipe for getting busted. I would at least move a little to the left in that picture and build some kind of bracket behind you to hold up a mesh or something. Shadows and back cover are your best friend when you cant get very high.

you might be better off with ground blinds... If you can't get in some shadows with some background, that tripod is useless

Same problem I'm running into on this lease. I picked up a pop up and I'm pretty happy with it.

If you can't get into some thick cover with the height of that tripod I would go with a ground blind no question. I'm having similar issues with my tripod. I think you will have better luck in a ground blind.

As others have said easier thing to do is get or build a ground blind!

Use the huizache just in front of the tripod, there`s enough good cover there but you placed outside, it has to bee INTO the huizache, after you manage to do this then take a prunner, crawl up and start cutting a shooting line to the feeder that`s all you need.

There`s nothing concealing the tripod righty now that`s why they keep staring at you and they will continue if you don`t move it.

You need to have limbs in front, sides and specially in the back (taller than you when seated on that chair) that way you`ll be more concealed...

Deer know their areas the same as you know your bathroom, even in dark you can go inside your bathroom since you are familiar with all the surroundings and where are they placed, if there`s a shoe or something placed or located in an unussual spot you`ll notice it inmediately, that`s the same with deer.

Here`s a tip for you, take two old pillows, tie them together with wire or rope and then cover them with camo fabric or clothes, tie this to the tripod`s chair when you`re not there and this will solve your problem since deer will get used to see something perched but not dangerous for them.

                        Have a good one!

Get some ASAT camo and just sit on the ground in a stool right under one of the trees. Works great!

Something else that happened to me that I sort of over looked, setting up any kind of new blind will require some time for the deer to get use to it. I set up a tripod and tried to hunt out of it the same weekend. NO NO! This was a big waste of time as the deer did the same thing, look right at me while they were eating and would never give me a chance to move. That was just what happened with the dumb deer, the smart ones took one look at the tripod and hauled butt!
