Pheasant hunting help

I've been invited on my first pheasant hunt in Oklahoma this December. I (being a Texan hunter) have never had the opportunity to hunt in snow. I assume it will at least be cold if its not snowing at that time. I'm doing my own research as well as asking people's thoughts on what kind if boots I should go with. So now im asking y'all. Budget hopefully will b under $225 I'm not willing to trade discomfort to save a couple bucks. Any feed back is welcomed thanks!!

I would look at danners. Do a fairly light weight boot with good merino wool sock. The main reason people's feet get cold is from the lack of circulation. I've sat in a deer blind in crocks and good socks while there is snow on the ground and have been fine. With you pheasant hunting you will be walking so will be able to keep warmer. Also don't let the snow build up of your laces and soles. Try to nock the snow off as it builds

Ones that are comfortable, pheasant hunting involves a lot of walking. And although it can be snowy, there are a lot more dry days in December than snowy days.

Gore-tex version of whatever fits you best and is comfortable to walk in. 400 grams of Thinsulate would be good. More than that would likely get too hot while you're walking. Sweaty, wet feet get cold.

I pheasent hunt alot but. I go with 400 Gr thinsulate and layer socks, dont want my feer sweating. Go for the lightest boot you can find, and comfortable too.

One more thing on boots....don't wear lug sole boots. They will pick up 10 pounds of mud if it's wet. Wear upland boots that have a relatively smooth sole. They'll still pick up some mud, but not nearly as much.

a buddy of mine bought some boots off of sportsmansguide.com and loves them. They are the "guidegear" brand which is the company's own brand. He hunts in Iowa with them and has had no problems. Only issue is you cant try them on before you buy them.

On another note, if you are going to be doing a lot of walking in the snow buy some gaiters. As light weight as you can find but make sure they are WATERPROOF if not Gortex. Doesn't matter how great your boots are if the snow is over the top of them.

I've worn my muck boots for years pheasant hunting. There a little warm but there like wearing tennis shoes. As far as comfort. And where we hunt in northern Oklahoma we hunt and have to cross creeks alot.

I just got back from a week long pheasant hunt in SD. I bought a pair of Redhead uplanders. Non insulated with gortex. Waterproof. I can testify for that. Also very comfortable and break in very fast. Very good boot for your money less than 150

I always wear Carhatt jeans and a hooded sweatshirt if its warming, and Carhatt bibs if it cold. Remember layers, it may start off cold cold and warm up once BOB gets high. You'll be moving a lot, once you start sweating its a downward spiral to misery.
As for boots, I've worn everything from Adidas to Danners and Bellvilles. Just depends on the weather on the day we are hunting. The gaiters idea isn't a bad one, stalks and high grass can hold alot of moisture after a heavy dew. Good socks are a must, blisters can ruin a hunt.

Good luck, I talked to my dad this week and he said they are covered up in birds in the panhandle.

We walk all day every day when we go pheasant hunting. You need good boots, but on top of that you need excellent socks. Don't skimp on socks.

They will work good. Just make sure you wear them a lot before your trip.
