I used to shoot from the dining room, through the kitchen, and into the garage at my last house. Could get 20 yards.

That was before kids while the room mates were gone... Only in Texas are there Rednecks as bad as us!

I shoot in my garage too, and after my "mishap" two weeks ago, the local police reminded my wife that it's against city ordinances to shoot within city limits.
Unless you're lucky enough to be able to shoot outside openly, it's a great way to keep your "shootin' muscles" in shape and work on form. You still need to hit a longer range regularly though.

If anything, I was grateful that I was home, because my wife was right there to help me when it happened. I have access to an outdoor range, but it's a good 20 or 30 minute drive. Plus there's no way my wife would drive out there with me every night, to sit in the Texas summer heat, while I practice shooting.
