    tree stand or blind

i have a spot picked out and if i put up a tree stand it would only be 15ft high at the most and i would have to buy one. i already own a pop up blind and could put it in a little better spot. what would yall do is 15ft good. also not sure if i put the post in the right section let me know if there is a better place for it

My tallest treestand is about 15' and since most of the trees on the places I hunt are mesquite other than in the creek bottoms, not likely to hunt from one taller than that. Having said that, 15' is plenty high--just back your stand/tripod up into a thick branched clump and if you have to, cut and hang lots of extra limbs behind you so you aren't skylighted--you'll be fine. Wind and noise is way more important.

I prefer to be at about 15 feet when hunting from a tree. Close shots aren't at such an angle and with good back cover the right wind and hunt from the shadows you won't hardly ever be noticed. I set my stands in true ambush spots instead of just a tree by a trail. If you can anticipate deer movement and be able to draw when they can't see you then your in the money.

Tree stand, gets your sent up higher away from the animal, thats my thinking?

In my opinion it really just depends on the scenario. For me 15' is about the absolute minimum I will hunt but if you have good cover for your treestand it should be fine. If not you will probably be better off in your ground blind.

15' had always been good for me. I prefer tree stands to ground blinds but try both have their place. I like tree stands cuz I like bein above the animal, plus scents already higher up than them.

if i go with the pop up i will go in and brush it in real good. also will put it up the first week in sept to give the deer time to adjust to it

chrischop04 is right. don't change the scenery on them in any less time than you have to. if i'm going to leave one out though, I pile the brush around it. This will help with the camo and also protect your blind from big wind...I learned that the hard way. otherwise, you need to try and hunt where you're most confident and the animal is going to give you the best shot placement possible.

As they say, Location, Location, Location. Prevailing wind direction, cover, access trails, etc. all have to be considered for each type of blind. Tree or Ground. Once very important factor is to have things set up a few weeks ahead of time. JMO.

Pop up here. I dont like only being 15 feet unless it has awesome back and front cover. But im an East Texas boy and used to being 30+ feet up. Ground blinds hold ur scent as good or better that bein 15 feet up. But can be hot in warm weather. So it all boils down to personal prefference. Me i use both depending on the situation.

I use both and probably have had better success out of my ground blind. Last year I went in on public land, popped it up, and within 45 mins I had 6 deer walk with in 10 yards of it.

15 is fine as long as the cover is good
