From what I have always been told is the wax will seep through the serving causing a barrier that can cause the serving to slip.

After testing this theory in many of our strings we do not warranty strings that come in with wax on the servings. We have also seen bows derail during our testing. The wax of the cams will lend the strings to slide off if you have a tendency to torque.

The extra wax will cake up your cams as well causing them to collect extra dirt.

ONE OF THE WORST THINGS YOU CAN DO TO STRING MATERIAL IS USE A BLOW DRYER!!! That direct heat will cause damage. All of the string material manufactures will let you know the doing so will cause damage to the fibers. You can elongate even the best of materials like 452X with a blow dryer.

DISCLAIMER: I know nothing about string materials or their reaction to the methods mentioned above. Just posting to give an opinion.

I wax the string well before putting my serving on, during the serving process wax will "squeeze out" (for the lack of the proper term) of the string are being served, this does two thing seats the material under the serving to be almost perfectly round and second makes the serving water resistant so waxing the serving isn't needed.
Natural daytime heat will keep the wax in good shape under the serving.
String material exposed will dry out and needs to be maintained regularly.

I use dry Q-tips to clean the Cam tracks to keep dust and dirt from collecting from just being outside hunting.
