Never did like the Blazers especially in wind and down range. It didn't take me long to go back to 4". I've Tried other 2" vanes and had the same problems so I think its more to do with the length of the vanes. JMHO

Larger vanes = more surface area = more stable flight but also equals more drag and slower flight. Find what feels right for you and your bow setup and shoot it until you can peel the vanes of you sticks, then shoot some more!

I decibal tested duravanes, blazers, and AA2 indoors and downrange. AA2 was the loudest and blazers not much behind. Duravanes were the quietest by several decibals. One of the reasons is the softer material which means if you shoot tight groups, you need to spot shoot and not group shoot or yes you will tear them up. They also have a slightly lower profile than a blazer but its minimal. Blazers can gain a little speed by being lighter. Also, the more spin or helical twist the slower your arrow will fly due to more wind resistance so it can be a trade off between speed and stabilization.

One other point is that not all 4 inch vanes are equal. Vanetecs are stiffer than duravanes and make almost as much noise as a blazer. I prefer having 1 dead quiet shot with the duravane while hunting, but have killed plenty with a blazer. They are definitely the most rugged. My theory though is that if I can hear an arrow fly down range, a deer definitely can. I can hear a blazer but not a duravane.

If he dont drop when the bow pops he's screwed. Ive killed loads of em with feathers. And they are loud as hell.

Interesting podcast on Petersons Bowhunting podcasts with fellow from AAE (Arizona Archery Enterprises) about vanes.

I am guessing that they have done a ton of research and testing on this very issue.
