    Broadhead Sharpening

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with sharpening their broadheads. If so what are the best sharpeners out there to sharpen them. I've seen some online but not sure what would be the best/cost effective sharpener to get the job done. Not looking for something cheap but not too expensive as well.

Also when it comes to mechanical broadheads (I use Swachers and Spitfires) can you sharpen them or always need to buy replacement blades after use. For fixed I'm using Slick Trick 4 blade magnums. Thanks

Slick trick mags n spit fires. Smiths Broadhead sharpener. Inexpensive and very effective. Swackers are single bevel if i remember right. Swacker makes a single bevel broadhead blade sharpener.

Nope its bh (broadhead) lingo. He's offering suggestions for sharpening different kinds of broadheads. Let me see if I can clear it up with some breaks.

Ragin knows his stuff... I have taken his advice on the Smith sharpner and glad I did... After arguing with him for a while I figured I'd try it out.. He was right.. Don't let him know though. He has a big enough head all ready.

I sharpen my slick tricks with a Lansky. They come out sharper than from the factory.

Never thought about that.. What angle do you use for the slick tricks.. I love my lanky sharpeners!

I think I use a step above the smallest angle. Can't quite remember, but it's almost exactly the same angle as the factory edge. Trick to making it work is to raise the burr, flip the burr, and keep flipping it with finer and finer grits. I get them hair popping scary sharp.

I can't even talk about a rubics cube without getting emotional. Why did you have to bring that up?

Yup that is exactly how I sharpen my skinning knives. I call the "Burr" "roll over" but you are correct... Get the diamond stones if you don't have them already. Cuts sharpening time in half!

Thanks for the reply and tip. Will be trying this out!

I use a little sharpener that I think I bought at Cabelas. It's a DMT- Diamond Broadhead Sharpener, the surface look like a Lansky, and they adjust as a pair so you can set the bevel. I also go a step further and remove the blades and sharpen each surface of the chisel point on a regular Arkansas stone, they don't really sharpen- just smooth the point and edges. This is also on Slick Tricks.

Which type of Lansky? The stone, hones or turn box type? Thanks.

Okay I am not saying the Lanskys dont work cuz ive used em and they work very well. But, here it comes, they cost more and i can sharpen 4-5 heads with a Smiths the time It takes to do 2 with the Lansky i had. And i much preffered that edge of the Smith. Only food for thought.
