    Bow string and cable replacement

How often do you replace your bow string and cable. Mine still looks like the day I bought the bow, but concerned I should replace no matter what at a certain interval.

I've gone 2 or 3 years in between changes, but I did not shoot very often AND I stored my bow in it's hardshell case with dessicant packs inside the house. With normal wear and tear and throughout a productive hunting season, I now change my strings every year, right around Labor Day.

Edit: Several bow manufacturers advise changing every 2-3 years. The consensus at 60X Custom Strings is to replace strings and cables after 2000-2500 shots but shouldn't exceed 2-3 years, given all other factors, such as storage and maintenance are properly addressed.

I have the same string on my No-Cam since the day I bought it (8-9 years maybe). Still works just like day one, just keep wax on it.

I go by the look of mine mostly and that is probably not the best practice

          4-5yr I would change regardless

I generally change mine before starting to heavily practice for October season to start (late July/early August) so it will be done with any stretching/twisting before season starts. I just had a new set put on after season but the previous one never changed from when it was put on. I think the new materials don't have much if any stretch so they stay where they are set

Is it still in spec? If not how much twisting would be required to get it back into spec? Answering those questions will help you decide if it's time for a new one.

I replaced my string last year after about 4 years and it made it difference in speed and accuracy. I'd recommend doing it every year if you can afford it. Why not right?

This is probably about the best advice. Strings and cables can look like they did new but be stretched beyond what their specs should be. Some strings that 5 years and 1500 shots and others its 1 year and 3000 shots.
