13 years old how to learn to shoot

My 13 year old comes to me out of the blue and ask if he can buy a compound bow. He has saved enough money to buy it. I have never shoot one before. I find this site and start reading as much as I can.
He buys a Bowtech Diamond Razor and gets a quick lesson from the Pro Shop.
Is there somewhere in San Antonio that I can get him lessons. One day he is shooting in the whites on the target, the next day he does not even hit the target. I don't want him to loss interest.
We know that practice makes perfect, but it really is perfect practice makes perfect. I want him to learn good habits, not learn bad habits that he has to break.

I have the solution to his problem---my son loves that sort of thing and is the right age. He works Kid's Day at Cabellas and the Fall Classic at Bass Pro like an old pro. Plus we're just right up the road.

Take these folks up on their offers to help, please. We need more folks like you and your son in our world. My advise on shooting with him is for you to get into it too if you can and make it a family thing, also dont overload his brain and get close (10 yards) till he gets the kinks worked out.
Enjoy and welcome to the site and the world of bowhunting.

I live off Bandera, just inside 1604. If you are close by and feel like swinging in, I can help him. I was his age when I got my first wheel bow, and remember a lot of the struggles that came with shooting it! First thing first though, what bow did he purchase and how is set up?

Thanks to our new friends Old Bald Guy and his son. They drove in from Canyon Lake to Bass Pro and spent 3 hours working with my son on his shooting. My son and I had a wonderful time, we can not wait to get up to Canyon Lake and shot with them again. Thanks to the TexasBowhunter.com (gs) for providing a way for me to find the help my son needed.

Post #9 is what the members of TBH and GS are all about. Thanks to Old Bald Guy and his son for the help given to this young man.

If your son still needs help, I can help him out, teach his about correct form and get him on the right track. And I'm always shooting at Bass Pro Shops

There's a good ol' boy TBH'er named RSATT who coined a phrase that sums it up well:

                        "Lotta good folks on here"

Yep, it was a pleasant evening. I've always liked the way kids eyes light up when they start sticking arrows in the X ring. He's coming along just fine.

Get him shooting with the correct form before he develops bad habits. I used to just fling arrows and shot ok but once i started taking my time going over a check list everytime i draw my groups tightened up. Kinda same approach as a pitcher.

Folks at Mesquite Archery in SA would help him too as would most folks shooting there! My 14 year old daughter and 7 year old daughter are getting ready to start shooting too. Cya around somewhere! It's great to keep the youngin's involved!
