    Fletchings

Even though I've been shooting a bow for 3+ yrs now, I've never asked the question. What is the difference between the shorter fletchings & the longer ones. My local bow shop set me up with the longer ones, and they've always worked great for me. I thought just incase I was ever to change my setup it might be helpful info to know the answer. So I was wondering if some of you more experienced bowmen could answer this question for me. Thanks

The shorter flecthings are good for windy conditions, smaller fletchings provide less wind drift and shoot flatter, thats why so many 3D shooters shoot the micro diameter blazers. I have been shooting blazers and have been very happy. I shoot Bhoning blazers right helical on my hunting arrows with fixed broadheads and I just started using the micro blazers for 3D and spot shooting. I hope this helps.

It helped me. I have always wondered but never asked! I just thought the shorter ones looked better.

Less weight, less drag, higher profile and stiffer. You can get the same flight with less weight and drag, which means a couple of FPS faster, and more downrange energy.

Stiffer. The vanes are of a different material and correct faster because they don't have as much flex. This allows for a smaller lighter vane with equal broadhead control.

So typically u won't see much change in broad head flight between the shorter and longer veins right?

The only time you will see a change if your shooting in windy conditions, especially in a cross wind.

I currently have 4 arrows in my quiver, two with 4" vanes and two with Blazers. They shoot to the same spot with broadheads and field points out to 40 yards and maybe further, I haven't tried any further with them just yet.
