My dad has one and knows a lot about them. If you pm me I'll give you his # and I'm sure he could answer most of your questions.

been my go to rifle since 94...like a 7mag with less recoil.

You will love it!! They are even making factory brass now, so no more fire-forming

        I'm shooting N165 & 120gr barnes...

It is a great caliber. I have had mine since '97 ( it was used when I got it ) and it is as accurate as ever. Go for it !!!!

Artos I may be wrong but i think Nosler and Norma make brass for it. If im not mistaken i think Nosler has it in there Trophy Grade or whatever its called line. And thats what made me look at it was 7 mag performance with less powder. Everything ive read has pointed to accuracy on it. Also i like the b.c. on .284 bullets.

You can do so much with it...I used to shoot 140's but the 120 solids are performing so well on whitetail and the recoil is even less. Impressive velocities if you look at the amount of powder compared to the other magnums.

You just need to twist your bbl for the bullets you want to shoot...I would go no shorter than a 26" tube.

It'a a cool round and know you will be happy with it.

Here's a neat pic of some of my favorite rounds:

              220 swift
              257wby
              280AI
              7mm Lazzeroni (Firebird)

Dude you gotta Lazzeroni?!!!! Ive always wanted a Firebird or Warbird.

Yes i will go minimim 26. I kinda tend to like heavier bullets. 140-160ish. What twist do you reccomend?

The warbird is overkill but a fun long range doe gun...shoots a 120gr lazerhead at 4000fps. It has like a 5" line of sight out to 400yds. Bbl is 30" long to get those results. It's pretty useless for anything other than it's intended purpose & bbl life is less than 1000 rounds.

Man, I would pm Blake on the the twist if you want to get into the heavier long range bullets...he has forgotten more about custom set ups than I'll ever learn

Ragin. I just got done building one last summer. Get a 1:9 twist it will stabilize the 180 Bergers.

                      See here:

u can use the greenhill formula too to figure out what twist rate is best suited for the bullet your wanting to shoot. im a total idiot when it comes to math but i can even figure it out. just google it or wikipedia.

Hey Paul do you know of anywhere to get factory 223ai brass? I'm tired of fire forming.

The only AI brass I know that is actually 'factory' available is 280 amigo...ff stinks but at least the stretch / trimming factor is greatly reduced.

No solutions for you on the 223 but pretty neat round!!
