    Rest problem question/rangefinder

Went out to shoot my 3D buck this afternoon, ranged it at 30 yds with my new Archer's Choice Rangefiner. Put my 30 pin on it, and it sailed over the back. No jerk of the trigger, breathing fine, just let it sail. I then aimed at the center of my bag target which is right under the 3D buck. Same thing: high by several inches. Would the new Rangefinder be to blame since I sighted in with an older rangefinder? I figured it had to be because my Bushnell was giving me some odd readings before, which is why I decided to get the new one. My new rangefinder at the distances that I had marked with my old one seems to be 2.5 yds off. (20=22.5, 30=32.5,etc).

To make matters worse, instead of just being high, they are grouping two-three inches left. I know there have been a few "adjusting the rest" threads, but I have never done that. I have an NAP Apache drop away. I'm trying to do everything myself and learn. Help appreciated. Thanks.

Could be possible that your old range finder was off. I'd mark my new readings with the new range finder and re-sight in. Better yet if possible go to a range that is already marked and sight in there. You can even see how true your new range finder is at the range by ranging their yardage with your range finder.

Well, setting up a rest and sighting in are seperate operations. 2.5 yards shouldn't be enough to make you miss a 3d target completely. You set up the rest first, and paper tuning is probably the easiest and fastest way to get the rest adjusted pretty close. Also you need the rest set so it comes all the way up at the end (last 2" or so) of the draw, which is done by adjusting the string that pulls it up.

I had the same drop away I was shooting at a tournament and dropped an arrow in the ground at 60 yards and my arrows were all over the place came to find out the quick sets don't tighten down enough with just your fingers and the drop away moved I removed the quick sets and replaced with hex head screws had no problems after that.

2 1/2 yards should not be enough difference to shoot under the target especially at 30 yards at most an inch or 2 low

Best I can figure is I must have done something wrong on the shot. I raised the entire site very slightly, and it fixed everything. I've been shooting at 60-70 yds, when I moved up to 20 yds, the difference was amazing. I moved back to 30 yds, and the groups widened a little, but I am hoping it was just due to the fact that I was tired. About every other group just opened up about two inches. Then back to normal.

Use a tape measure then check the range finders to see how accurate they are.

2.5 yards off would not make you shoot over a 3d target. High maybe but not over. Something else happened.
