Does anyone have experience with 6.5-284 round. I'm thinking about converting my 270 into a 6.5-284 and putting a Huskamaw scope on it. Not sure on how well it takes down whitetail, mule deer and elk. Any thoughts. Should just start from scratch and put a huskamaw on a new 300 and keep my old 270 with a 3x9 scope?

No sir. Seen an Elk dropped at over 700 yds with a shoulder shot useing a 6.5x284. The trick? Berger VLD Bullets. That round will shoot lights out over most rounds. It retains a lot of energy at long rang with those bullets. Super accurate and flat dont kick.

The 6.5 round is heads and shoulders above a 270. The ballistic coefficient and sectional densities are way higher than a 270 wishes it could ever be.
The round is out shooting the 300 win mags at the camp perry 1000 yard matches and doing it with significantly less recoil and muzzle blast.
Using the 140 grain Berger VLD bullets it is plenty of gun even at long distances. I've seen a mountain goat shot at 840 yards and a black bear shot at 963. Both were one shot kills.

There you are!!! I would venture to say Mike D and Cajun Blake are our resident rifle experts. Especially when it comes to custom rifles and Wildcat rounds.

I've never heard the short barrel life theory on the 6.5-284, I'll have to look into that. I know the 300 is could for any animal in north america, but I'm sure I could afford a new rifle the day I can aford to go moose or brown bear hunting, so I won't take that into account.
Thanks for the advice! Sorry to talk about rifles on a bow forum, but I always get great advice about everything on TBH. I did shoot a doe this evening with my bow. It didn't pass through, but thank God for ilumnok because I could see here run into the brush 100 yards.I hit a little low on the sternum, but the rage did the trick. She was pouring blood.
