    Pop up or ladder stand

I have always hunted in a ground blind but am thinking about adding a ladder
stand on my lease but have never hunted that way. Just curious what everyone is using out there and what size ladder stand is best.

If you have trees and good cover, I PERSONALLY will take a ladder or some form of elivated stand 100 out of 100 times over a pop up.

I hunt as high as the cover will allow me to hunt (ladder stands often aint high enough for me). 16' ladders will fit in most situations. Most of my loc-ons are 25'-30' feet and one I know is over 35'

I use a 15 foot ladder stand, and a pop up in another location. I like them both.

I was thinking of leaving the pop up near the feeder and the ladder stand on one of the trails leading to the feeder. Thought I may catch a buck hanging back instead of coming to the feeder.

I use a Gorilla pop up surrounded by oak limbs and spanish mosses for a more natural look!!!

I always use ladders or climbers. I feel that they add more of a challenge to the hunt.

Have you considered a lockon vs a ladder?

I like them both for different reasons. It sure is nice to be cozy in a pop up on a cold damp day. But I also like sitting up in a tree and out of the usual line of sight.

used a pop up last season and the deer knew it was there. even with it brushed in. I switched to tripods this year and have had deer walk under me (only 12 ft up) and never noticed. I think it's easier to draw in pop up though without worrying about them seeing the movement.

I keep my pop up handy for rainy days or the extremely cold windy days to keep warm, other than that I'm in a lockon or ladder stand. I wouldn't go with anything shorter than a 15 ft ladder stand and I prefer 17-20 ft.

I'm a big guy, so I use a 2 man ladder stand from Big Game treestands, it's nice to have the extra space. Also I hunt in west texas so your not going to find trees tall & straight enought to use all the ladder rungs. I would guess my stand sits around 10 to 11 ft high. I have deer walk within 5 to 6 steps from my stand.

If you have trees and cover, it's the only way to hunt. Get above the deer is way more affected.

That sounds like a good idea to me.
