    Tree stands

Hey guys I am fairly new to bow hunting. i have a pop up blind, but i am looking to invest in a new stand. I am wanting to get a tree stand. Should i get a ladder stand or a basic tree stand? What kind of steps do i use if i just get a basic tree stand? any reccomendations on brands or styles of stand? im on a $150 budget. thanks and god bless

Get a gametamer from Sportsmanguide.com $99.00 or 89.00 if your a member and a tree stick. If I could only have one tree stand the Gametamer would be it!

I'm not sure if its called that in that catalog. Its the treestand with a platform and seat that fits to angled limbs! Also,if you get one (I'm not sure how tall you are)but I cut off the pedestal 3" and it was way more comfortable to sit in(They come for tall people).I'm 5'8" and my toes were the only thing on the platform.Good Luck!

I have seen a few package deals for around $1oo at Cabela's with a stand and sticks or rapid rails. I would really consider squeezing a safety harness into the budget. Most are around $100 but I think Seat of The Pants can be had for $50.

        Good luck

What kind of stand you need depends on what kind of terrain/trees you're hunting. If your area has a lot of straight up and down trees with no limbs up to the height you want to hunt, climbing stands are portable and work well. If you have straight up and down trees that have a few limbs between the height you want to sit and the ground, then a lock on with steps or a ladder would work better. In an area like mine, where the trees aren't usually perfectly straight and have a lot of limbs close to the ground, it's most practical to use ladder stands. Big Game Stands makes some awesome ladders, but they are pricey. I don't have much experience with lockons or climbers, so couldn't say what's the best value there.

Always wear a harness!!! Most stands come with one.

it depends what part of the country you are hunting in? if your hunting in the hill country or south texas I would use a laddar stand. also you need to consider if this stand is going to be in a semi permanate location or will you be moving it often. if your location has a lot of straight round trees you can use a climber or hang-on stand. I recomend Lone-Wolf brands. they are $$ but made with quality materials. Also GOOD choice deciding to invest in a tree stand!! My personal opinon is they are easier to kill from than ground blinds. Your sucsess rate will improve!

ShaBow said it right. We have a few of these on our place and this is by far the best bow stand i have ever owned. Very simple. I have even copied them and made a few myself a few years back when the market on them was high. Now I can't even make them cheaper than what they sell them for.

Good advice. I have all three types and the type of tree configuration determines which stand I'll use.
