That depends on what you feel confident with. I've had mine apart to replace the pull string and it's not too bad. You need to look up a youtube video or something so you know what to expect tho. That's what I did and was glad I did.
If it's brand new, I'd go back where I got it and see if it can be exchanged....it shouldn't do that.

Ripcords are one of the fastest drop away's out right now.It shouldn't just glide down. However if im not mistaken they are adjustable. But i would take it to a pro shop and have them look at it.

I took mine apart and greased everything with 3-1 oil. The only real trick is making sure you put the spring back in the correct direction. Pretty easy though.

I used to work on ripcords at a shop here locally. If you arent comfortable with small parts and springs, i wouldnt suggest opening it. there really isnt much to the internals of them. I have seen this happen a fews times before. mostly caused by the spring. Take it to a pro shop that is a ripcord dealer. My local shop carries all the ripcord components to be able to repare them.

*edit* if you cant find a local dealer, call ripord. They are a great company with great service. they will make it right

I do have a spare you're welcome to use if interested. Hopefully the cord will be long enough and I can have it in the mail tomorrow. Just let me know.
