Newb question: What triggers a mechanical BH to open?

The jarring force of hitting an object? Or does going through an object catch on the blades causing them to open up? Or something else I haven't thought of?

Coming into contact with the hide. Simplest way to put It i guess. Rear deployers open before entering useing up less energy. Jack knife styles open during penetration thru the hide and tissue useing more energy to open up. Thus these usually give much smaller entrance holes than a rear deploying mech head.

The RAGE website has a pretty good slow motion illustration of how their broadhead opens, and some pretty graphic video footage, of the real thing in action.

Also check out the NAP website. The 2 blade bloodrunners are more of a spring loaded bh.

Very good areas. I bought a dozen and shot them at Cinnamon Creek Ranch. I love them.

I found some Carbon Express Torrids for a very reasonable price. We'll see if they work or if they're crap. Look pretty nasty, though. Thanks for the input, guys.
