    Another AR Thread

I have a couple questions for the GS brain trust – I think I have settled on an AR upper, looking at the Spikes 16” Mid Length. Anyone have a suggestion for a lower to pair with this one? Trying to keep the cost down. Also, does anyone have any experience with their 5.56 ML upper with the 9” BAR rail? Is it worth getting or just find an aftermarket quad rail? Thanks.

I started a response yesterday but got sidetracked.

I can't comment on the Spikes uppers other than to say from what I have read they are pretty good quality.

For the lower you have a ton of options. Are you wanting something with a good trigger or just a regular one? The stock trigger on AR's are pretty heavy and there are a large number of single and dual stage triggers available that are much better.

For the money the Rock River lower with their national match trigger is a pretty good deal. Their lower parts kits are decent quality too and they offer a lifetime warranty on their trigger if you ever have any issues. That trigger has a reputation for not being 100% reliable and I have experienced one failing myself. But RR fixed it no questions asked.

Otherwise, you could buy a stripped lower, lower parts kit and stock kit and build one yourself. They are really easy to put together and you can find plenty of instructions on sites like ar15.com.

One advantage to buying or building the lower separately from the upper is you save 11% in taxes that is built in to the price of a complete firearm. So you can often save money doing it this way and you can tailor your AR to match your specific needs.

Why not just buy a complete Spike's rifle? You won't be able to build one of comparable quality for any less $$.

Also look at the Palmetto State Armory rifles.

Well, I settled on a DPMS base model. Will do what I want it to do and the price was right. Here is a pic, thanks for the feedback.
