Just make sure the target is far enough away from the bow to allow the arrow to clear

I figure 4-6' is close as I want to shoot anything

I REALLY appreciate all of the input. like I said I know there are more knowledgable people than I. I have found no laws on the books for my city barring hunting or projectiles or discharging firearms. Surrounding cities won't allow discharging firearms (including air guns), allows hunting in city limits just not in city parks. but I'm not in Wimberley proper and was told unless I am in the HOA subdivison (which bans projectiles) than hunting within Woodcreek city limits is allowed. I cannot bait them as feeding of deer is against city law. they aren't tame but I cant certainly get inside 8yards and sometimes 5. This is the whole purpose of the thread to see if I needed to back up a little but a bull elk at 4yds is far larger than a "hill country deer on a diet". I know I might be flamed but I'm not doing it for sport. I'm doing it as population control and some meat. I also figured a good way to introduce my step-son (12) to bowhunting and work him up from this to being motionless in the field. Last year duck hunting was first time he every hunted. so we're gonna step it up this year.
