    nubie question / arrow length?

Is there a general rule of thumb for arrow length? Like should the arrow tip be 1" in front of arrow rest @ full draw. My son's arrows are out of the box new from academy. looks like too much is hanging out past the rest. Or does it really matter that much?

1" at in front of rest not riser is the standard. Yes it matters. The lenght of the arrow affects the weight of the arrow. If the weight isn't correct for the poundage you're shooting then it affect's your grouping and tuning efforts.

1" past the rest is a good cut. also the length can affect the spine of the shaft. a shorter arrow is gonna have less flex than the longer arrow of the same spine rating

The bow shop I bought my bow from cut the arrows flush with the front of the riser on my setup.
I kind of like having the broadhead in front of my hand too...

field points, broadheads, fixed and mechanical are all different lengths from one brand to the next. that would be too much to chase around. just 1" of shaft in front of the rest is plenty.

Weight of the arrow has nothing to do with the accuracy of the arrows, grouping or tuning. Spine of the arrow does and the length of the arrow will affect that. The arrow spine needs to be matched to the draw weight of the bow, length the arrow has to be, weight of the BH, style of cams of the bow and all the other necessities in shooting. A good pro shop can help with this. As far as length to cut an arrow in front of the rest or the riser, that is personal preference. Mine are about 1" in front of my rest.
