what scope to use?

Got a buddy who wants to start shooting at 600 yards with his new gun. What power scope should he buy?

i have never shot 600 yds but my dad has a 6.5-20 power scope on his rifle and i would think that would be plenty

i was using a 20x , but not needed ,, i would say anytihng 16 and up!

I have a leupold vx-3 L 3.5-12 and have shot deer at 400 yards. The higher magnification helps but in the end it comes down to the shooter. I like my scope because you can order bcs turrets for your specific load out. If you hand load and want to change your load you just have to order a new one.

4.5x14x50mm. i like the vxIII myself. i also shoot a 6.5x20x40mm but it's a little much.

i'll say this then bug out, you would be suprised whats on top of a lot of leo high powered rifles. with practice a 3x9 will go the distances your friend is talking about. 397 is my personal best on a deer with my .25-06' sendero. i was using my 4.5x14 and it was dialed up to 10x. the rig would go 600 yds. but that's beyond my comfort zone so i respect my limitations. i think most people end up paying for magnification they don't use and don't need for that matter.
