    Broadhead tuning question...

I keep reading that in order to get more consistent broadhead accuracy changing the FOC by moving from a 100 grain bh to a 125 grain bh is recommended, but I just can't wrap my head around how this works...can someone explain it to me so my simple mind can wrap my head around it?

Balance point on shaft moves forward, so to put in the way that helped me understand, the vanes will wobble wider than the tip, dragging the tip in front of the vanes(steering) instead of the broadhead doing the steering.
I really don't believe the difference will be noticeable.
Some guys can shoot such subtle differences, but most just repeat what they read.

Problem is that increasing the bh weight also changes your effective spine.

If you are spined correctly an increase in FOC mass allows for the front of the arrow to steer instead of the rear. this is more forgiving since the front is less affected by form issues than the rear. A small increase in FOC may not be noticeable (less than 1%), but a 2% will.

Thanks...sort of confused now...Rocky's explanation makes more sense.

How do you know when to change from a 100 gr to a 125 gr bh?

Let's just say you know your arrow is plenty stiff(I hate when people say 'too' stiff), and you want to see if your set-up will shoot better with a heavier tip,(higher FOC), this is when I'd try a 125.
If you do, don't be surprised to notice very little difference if any.
If you find a 125 grain broadhead you like, and your set-up is not ill affected by the heavier head, and you don't mind a loss of speed by app. 8 fps, this is another time to try it.

I changed from 100gr to 125gr and my groups tighten up a bunch so much that i stayed with 125gr, whatever works best for you
