I shoot a bowtechguardian set around 55lbs. and currently shoot 4" vanes with mechanical broadheads. I have read lately that mech heads will work better with shorter vanes and longer vanes are more for fixed blades to prevent them from planing. I just wanted to see what vane/broadhead combinations others are shooting and prefer.

It really doesn't matter. I shoot short blazer vanes with 125 gr. fixed snuffer broadheads.
However, the rule of thumb is the larger the surface in flight, the larger the vane/feather.

I shoot a Z7 set around 52lbs. Blazer vanes and Slick Trick 100gr. standard Broadheads. They shoot great.Comment

I have, out of my own bow, tested different heads and with different vanes. With even the small 1.5" vanes, both types (fixed & mech) flew just fine. This is out a finely tuned bow. BTW this small vane did not work well with the light spine. It still hit the same place but the poi was different from ft.Comment

Any combination will work. I shoot 4" vanes with a mechanical head. I also shoot 4" vanes with any fixed blade head aswell. I like to shoot a hard helical.Comment

Mech or fixed, they both have their issues you just need to find a combination you shoot well and are comfortable with. Short or long vanes/ feathers... I shoot 2" vanes now with 100gr. rage 3 blade and love the results. 68 lbs draw Z7 .Comment
