Reviving a slate call?

How do you revive an old slate call and stick. The call and stick are old/cheap but they came from my childhood gun store (quick has since closed). The stick is worn super smooth, should I rough it up will large grit sand paper?

my slate call came with sand paper, so I think it would be ok, but do not take me for definite since I am still new to turkey hunting.

you can sand a new spot on the slate to bring it back to life. A green scrubby pad on the striker should bring it back to life too. Using sandpaper could mess it up pretty good, and kill the sound from it.
