    Calling All Bowfishermen and Bowfisherladies

Thinking of getting into bowfishing in case a call ever comes across the line.
    (You know who you are)

So tell me what has worked for you!!

    I need to know:

    -Who makes the best setup

    -poundage

    -reel/no reel

    -type of line

    -sight/no sight

    ....and so on.

Hook a brother up, then hook a brother UP!!

Any cheap recurve, browning barracuda, ams fish hawk.... Any of these will work.
35-40 lbs is all you need unless you are going after BIG fish unless you just like to try pulling arrows from 12" of mud.

As for reels..... AMS retrievers are the only way to go IMO.

    No sights

I run 400# fast flight on my rigs for line.

Go with any recurve or low poundage bow, 40 pound range. I shoot a muzzy reel seat and a Synergy with 200# Fast Flight. Any good fish arrow with a AMS Safety Slide and get after it. The only time I use a retriever is on big fish and I go with a slotted so I can use a float. Everyone has their reasoning for using whatever but mine comes from fishing a lot of tournys and the retrievers are a pain IMO for shooting a lot.

Perfect set up IMO,, Oneida Osprey, muzzy real seat,a Synergy, a dove tail mount for a quick fit Retriever, epoxy rest,a few carbon Muzzy gar shafts with safety slides and a set of no gloves. ok this is my set up but its a good one...

        Bow Fishing

I use the Mathews Sportsman, they are light weight and smooth. I also use a Zebco retriever w/200# fast flight, they are fast and easy to use, but they can get tore up pretty easily. No sights, bows set on 30 - 40 lbs. Muzzy arrows. It is a great sport, more fun than you can ever imagine, especially when your boat is knee deep in fish. Good luck.

I use a Micro Midas set at 40#, 200# line, AMS retriever (bottle style) Muzzy arrows (the purple ones- more expensive but I have only broke 1 in 6 years!!!) I used to shoot in very rocky areas in Wisc so I had to replace and sharpen tips often. I use a release as this is how I learned and prefer. I do not use a sight as it gets in the way of your field of vision. I try to not shoot further than 10 yards away. Water refraction is worse farther away for me.
Hope this helps. I have heard it said recurves are best as you do not need to come to full draw and can shoot faster.

Darton makes a great unit, whether you get the complete unit or just the bow. I get the whole package, all ready to shoot something at a very low price! You can look and buy on line, or find a dealer. Here is a one pic!

I've heard the osprey is the one and all but I justify that cost.

Get a recurve that you aren't afraid to beat the crap out of. I personally like more poundage to get more penetration in bigger fish. I like around 55#s. Ams reel with the strap on attachment if you don't have inserts in the bow. Ams safety slides. Muzzy arrows and tips.

Buy a cheap bow 40 -60 lbs and set it up yourself.

I backed my old fred bear jennings down to 60 lbs and fitted it with a zebco fishing reel its about 35 bux new.

Then buy 3 - 4 of the muzzy bow fishing arrows and bow fishing tips and you are set to go.

Just used the true glo sight that was allready on it.

I cant justify buying a 200 to 300 dollar new bow to bowfish with when you can get a cheapy off the classifieds and set it up for under 100 bux.

I also have an ole Martin, Real ole Martin that I used to use but it became a pain to find strings and cables for.

You can spend as much as you want to on it but I hunt from the bank in rivers, below ****s, rock crawling and river crossing and it never hurts my feelings to bang up an old bow.
