Trying to get my bow right...

Hey folks, I've been experiencing erratic arrow flight for some time now, made a bunch of adjustments according to the Easton Tuning Guide and never could get it right. I have decided that it's fletching contact with my QAD Hunter rest, have heard some say the rest is too slow for my Black Ice, but other reviews say it's not, more likely a timing/tuning issue. So, this morning, I stopped by Academy and picked up a bow square and a few other tools because today, I plan to get it right. First thing I noticed was my nocking point was dead on square (after having three different shops adjust my rest, they never touched the nocking point) and the Easton Tuning guide says it should be about 1/4" above square. Fixed that. Center shot is right, or very close, will fine tune that when I start shooting.

Now my problem is that the felt for my QAD came off a while back and since I didn't have time to order new, and nobody around me had any, I used Vetwrap to silence the launcher, it worked AND showed me where my blazers were contacting (which is why I switched to shorter full length vanes and thought I had that solved). I have taken that off and tried to get something else to work, athletic tape doesn't quiet it down enough for me, and I can't figure anything else out at the moment. Does anybody know of an archery shop near Temple that might carry the right felt for the QAD rests? I tried calling The Outhouse, but no answer, probably because they don't open until 10, I'll try again soon, but in the mean time, any ideas? I KNOW Peacocks wouldn't have it, even if he hadn't closed, he doesn't carry QAD, nor any accessories for them, I've asked numerous times in the past.

Nevermind, called back and Outhouse has what I need.

couple of things, just to re-iterate what you've already said.

      1. your bow is not too fast for a QAD

      2. Are you doing cock feather up or down

      3. I break that bar on top off. Unless you plan on hanging upside down its not necessary the U will hold and arrow fine up to around 90 degrees. I'd bet money if you snap that off you'll see an improvement

I shoot cock vane up, tried cock vane down once and made the contact worse. As far as the containment bar on top, I understand what you're saying, and agree, BUT, in most of the places I hunt, there are a lot of cedars an heavy brush that has a way of removing the arrow from the rest. That, along with the fact that the rest doesn't fall when I let down, are the main reasons I went with QAD.

I just picked up a bow this last Christmas so if this is poor advice please to me so . I have the same rest and after shooting it a while I noticed all my cock feathers had black on them from hitting the top bar. Showed it to a tech at the bow shop and he said to just rotate the nock enough that the cock feather is a little to one side.

If you are getting contact with the fletching and the rest arms, then it is the timing on the rest. It is not falling fast enough for the fletching to clear either that or your arrow is kicking down coming off the string and contacting the rest. I shoot a Ripcord and have cut the arms off the rest for a very low profile and taken the top bar off it and have had zero problems with my arrow coming off, even while stalking and my rest will drop if I let down from full draw. This is just my opinion, but I have never seen the need for a full containment rest. I will stalk with the arrow in my right hand, but seldom on the rest until I am almost to the point of drawing before I put the arrow on the rest and string.

Well, guys, thanks for the advice, but Pat up at the Out House got me going. Come to find out, it wasn't the rest at all, no contact there, it was the cable. A new cable slide and I was in business. Brought the bow home and tried it out with broadheads, not planning on making any adjustments today due to the 25mph winds, just wanting to check it out. No adjustments neccessary! Fieldpoints and broadheads shoot to same POI with good, no GREAT grouping, now I need to go refletch some arrows!

Is that not the best feeling when your Broadheads and fieldtips hit together
