    question...3d competition rules

I have just put a single pin TruGlo Range Rover (which you have to adjust a slide to move the pin to the different ranges) on my bow here recently. I have been told that there might be some 3D competitions that might make a person with this type of a sight shoot in the "open" division. I am by no means a pro and can barely keep up with some of the youth shooters right now. Can some of you let me know what the deal is...whether or night I might need to start looking for a different sight so that I can shoot normal. I really do like this sight but there is no way I can compete. Please advise. Thanks.

Any adjustable sight can be used in the HUNTER classes AS LONG AS IT IS LOCKED DOWN and NOT MOVED (fixed ). Yes , you will be told you have to shoot OPEN if you plan on adjusting it for each shot. That is how I started in 1998, adjaustable sight -shooting open and getting beat by over 100 points. It did make me a better hunter because I learned to judge distance out to a farther distance and had to make longer shots. I know several who lock their sight down on 25 yds and just hold high or low in Hunter class.

In any santioned event you must shoot "open".

Some "clubs" will allow you to shoot hunter, or MBO if "adjustable behind the riser"

Our club goes by our own rules: Adjustable behind the riser may shoot MBO...... OR may shoot any class they want as long as they DQ their score card from competition.

We get tons of shooters that just "want to shoot", have fun with their buddies. AND WE AT STICK SLINGERS SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE THAT!!!! just shoot and have fun....I aint found a way to cook a trophy yet

Thanks for the info. Yes, my sight adjusts behind the riser. So, I guess I will have to figure out what I want to do.

ASA will allow you to shoot Bow Novice or Hunter with an adjustable sight , single pin. AS long as it is LOCKED down and not moved during the shoot. You are allowed (1) gang adjustment as well. So if you locked it at 25yds and it seemed to be a longer or shorter course than you thought , You could move it 1 time. The IBO is all but dead in Texas , some clubs may be enforcing it but I shot with several in IBO shoots with adjustable sights locked down around 25 -27 yds . They just gapped off that . Azip-tie would be a good way to assure your group you were not moving it.

Check www.texasasafederation.com for state qualifier sch. in the south region. There's 30 yd. max class, with known distance you could use that sight if you lock it down. There's also a 40 yd. hunter class you could do the same. I would suggest that if you have the extra $ to go ahead and spring for a set of pins and don't handy cap yourself. You can purchase pretty good set for under $50.

Ok. Another question dealing with this subject...does the same rule apply to women or youth with using this type of sight? We just purchased a bow for my wife and considering putting this sight onto her bow but if this rule applies to her then I will have to figure out something different.

IMO you shouldnt be concerned with not being a "pro" to shoot open class. We are all out there to have fun, and the open classes are not jammed packed with top notch shooters. Worse case, give Open C a try which is intended to be a beginner open class. Your wife could shoot in the womens open class too, and there is absolutely NO reason to be concerned about being ridiculed. From what I can tell, the groups of ladies are the ones having the most fun, cracking the most jokes, and offering the most friendly advice and support to new shooters. They should all be like that!!
