I used to do this for the exact same reason, and it works well, but I've found that in several cases, this method allows the cord to twist and loop inside contacting vanes, so now I just go ahead and split the cable and make sure that the cord comes into cable from outside so that the cord will loop out eliminating contact with vanes.
When I have to retime by twisting cable, I just pull cable and re-insert.
Rest is still timed due to serving above.

Never had that problem on any I've setup, but I reckon anything is possible

Like Javi stated, I do this also, and have for several years on my bows and those of others. I had one served through a "split cable" last spring, and was wondering if it was going to hold. And it cost me a shot at a monster boar I've been hunting for several years now back in May. The burnt end came off and slipped through the split down cable right at the moment of truth, even though it was served above and below. So I went back to tying a double half-hitch to the down cable and adding serving just above so it won't slip up the cable. I've never had an issue this way.

On most of the QAD rests, the end of the cord that runs through the rest is melted into a ball, with no other security.
I hope that melted end doesn't come off.
Takes a good bit of tension on the static cord to pull through the cable, whether burned or not.
