    Waxing the string

I am new to the whole thing and bought a used bow Mathews Reezen that was fully set up. As I get into this i heard someone mention waxing the string. So what the heck is that all about??

Anyone have suggestions on where to get the Archery guide for idiots??

Go to an archery shop and buy a tube of string wax. Rub it liberally on the string, then take a small piece of soft leather and rub it briskly up and down the string until it gets warm and the wax melts into the string. Don't rub until it is hot--just warm enough to melt the wax.

No clue about the guide however--

You can learn a lot about archery by hanging out with others who love the sport. Look in to Collin County Bowhunters, Texins Archery Club or Mesquite Archery Club. They all have scheduled opportunities for organized shoots and there are almost always people just out shooting on the weekends. Also there is an archery shop that I believe is near you in Lewisville, All Star Archery.

I use the white tube from academy. There are tons of idiots to guide you here on the green screen. Just kidding. I use the green screen as my guide. Aswell as google and youtube has been really great.

We use Own blend when building. But suggest for people to use the boning archery wax in the red tube. You can buy it at your local shop and the chain stores.
Rub the wax on with the tube and then with a soft leather patch. Too much wax and it collects dirt. Too much rubbing and it will mess up the string.

Use a quality Bow string wax. Keep the lid on when not in use and keep the cap and outside of the tub wiped clean to avoid contamination. Wax the string lightly in a back and forth motion. Avoid served areas that track through or around cams, guides, rollers, or idler. Getting wax in these areas will only trap dirt and accelerate wear on not only the string but these parts. After applying the wax rub it into the string between your thumb and index finger so that you can feel how warm you get the wax and string. No need to get things hot, warm is all you need. Avoid over waxing your string and cables. The excess wax will be turned into wax dust the first few shots and settle on the other parts of your bow and sights. This will just serve to attract more dirt and dust. Bow string wax can also be used to put on all the bolt threads that attach items to your bow riser. This will prevent the corrosion that happens when steel and aluminum are exposed to rain, fog, or moisture. This can save you from a seized up bolt in your riser. A bit of string wax on the threads of your arrow tips or broadheads will also keep them from getting loose when you don’t want them to.

I have also heard of some using a hair dryer on low or med. heat to help melt the wax..

I've been using it for a while and like the results. I always put wax everywhere like the guy on the video. Not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing after hearing some of the points here about collecting dirt and wearing on the cams. That does make sense. I think I'm going to shoot and email to Hoyt and get there thoughts on it just to hear what they have to say.
