Okay boys. Here's the deal. I need to have my bow restrung. I have called a few shops in the Hosuton area and they are all around $100 bucks for strings and cables. They all seem to be pushing their "custom" strings made in house. How do these compare to say H&M or Winners Choice? They say they use the same material but how good are their string making skills? I'm asking because I am new to BH and not sure what I should do here. Any ideas? Should I just order some and have them installed or go with their "custom" strings?

I have used strings made by Scott at viking and thought they were VERY good. He let me watch and ask about 1,000 questions while he made them. My dad has winners choice on his bow and I honestly don't think they were as good. The end servings just weren't as neat on Winners Choice. There are lots of very good custom string makers out there. I would be comfortable using strings made from nearly everyone of them. Right now I have ProLine strings on my AlphaMax and I'm very pleased with their strings and service.

By far the best in bow strings are not the most expensive. As for as name brands, every one of the string makers have a name. I use M&R strings and would think they are some of the best, so does a lot of my customers. Winners Choice was, at one time the best, but not anymore!! IMHO Not bad, just not as good as a lot of others! BTW a set of strings should not be over $75.00 Try Vapor Trail, 60X, Pro Line, Crackers, M&R, H&M, and a whole lot more. Some have web sites to find info on how and why they do what they do. M&R for example has a heat box that the strings are stretched in. This means that the strings will have to get over 140degrees before stretching from heat.
