Just wondering what others use for a release. I have a Scott release right now with a buckle style wrist strap and a straight release trigger (hair trigger). I see people with what I call a t handle shooting with their hand upside down from what I see. I seem to be doing ok with what I have, just looking for insight on if I should change..........

I say it depends on how happy you are with your shooting accuracy. I shot a Scott release similar to yours and made the switch to a Carter thumb release. I shot the Carter in practice for over a year and this season I made the switch to it full time. I don't think I will ever go back to a finger release.
Here is a link to the method that I chose to learn. I also bought the Morin Trainer and practiced with it in the house until I felt like I had it down before I ever used the release on my bow. I still use the Trainer from time to time in the evenings.

It's not that I'm not happy, I just want to be able to shoot as well as I can even if I have to adjust what I use. I guess I will borrow another release such as the thumb release and see if it even feels right. Just the motion of using my thumb does not really feel right, much less upside down like some have it. I guess we will see.

I have switched from using a conventional index finger caliper to a thumb release caliper and will probably not go back. I did this because of TP and using a Whalens Hooker BT. The thumb release is more like the BT release. I also had to go to a D loop for the first time, but everything is working well and my accuracy has increased 10 fold and it is fun to shoot again, except for the fact I am ruining a lot of arrow and FOB's with this new found accuracy.
This is not the firt time to shoot a thumb release as i shot one for many years competing in the open division of 3D tournaments. I shot a thumb or little finger release for tournaments and a index finger caliper for hunting, but the TP made all that change. The thumb release I currently shoot is a Tru Ball Cahppy Boss caliper, but i am going to buy the new Max 4 Pro by Tru Ball which is made for hunters.Last edited by Mudslinger; 10-22-2010, 09:34 AM.

Thanks DoubleL, I watched the video. Learned something just by watching. That technique of the thumb release was not at all how I thought they worked. I'm new to the bow thing, so I have a lot to learn. I have one hog under my belt on opening day of bow season this year with hopefully many more critters down. That may of been a fluke, but the arrow went right where I aimed it and I don't remember pulling the release, which is good I guess. I just want to be as smooth and accurate as possible. Nerves are enough problem without throwing in bad technique or equipment that could be better. I'll just have to experiment and see where that leads me. If it is not better then I'll just stay with what is comfortable.
