Is my arrow too light for WT / Hogs / Exotics ?

As you can see from my signature I am slinging a 386 grain arrow at around 310 - 320 FPS. I love shooting a lighter faster arrow because it shoots pretty flat and I can just use one pin out to about 32-35 yards. I am wondering if I should go to something heavier for hunting and keep these arrows for 3d and target shooting. What do you guys think?

My arrow is a Beman ICS Hunter 400 (8.4 GPI) with a 100 grain head. Fletched and ready to go it comes to 386. Thanks for your input.

Plenty in my opinion for anything in NA. With that being said, I am going from 410 grains at 314 fps to 560 grains at 269 for a lot of reasons, but what you have is sufficient for almost anything you are going to hunt.

your bow will me more quite and who knows they may group better. I know when I went from a 400 gr. arrow to a 475 gr arrow my groups are better. With more momentum and KE you will be better off if you do shoot a hog in the shoulder.

just think if you drive a One Tone Diesel truck at 45 mph and hit a brick wall and then do the same with a Ford Ranger what is going to cause more damage and which one will go further.

Your lighter arrow slow down faster down range and loose more KE and Momentum faster down rang.

Tookeymonster hit the nail on the head with everything he said. I upped the weight on my arrows to get more FOC and what i ended up with after some playing, from the original 410 grain results, were more FOC, more KE and I believe now the most important part, more momentum. Also the arrow should be more forgiving because the point is pulling the rest of the shaft and not the shaft having to push the front and what shocked me most of all was the noise factor or lack there of with the 560 grain arrow. I can also tell that the 560 grain hits my bag target a lot harder than the 410 grain arrow because it will swing the bag a lot worse than the 410 grain. My bag target is hanging off a target hanger i built. But, with that being said, you still have enough for most animals in NA.

They'll be fine, however you might find that your bow is quieter and smoother with an arrow weighing a bit over 450 grains and that it hits harder with more penatration if you get the FOC up around 12 to 14% ...

ive been shooting an arrow that weighs 350 gr. for several years now and every deer i have shot has been a clean pass through and im only shooting about 290 fps so i would say you are ok with that arrow weight the only thing more weight will hurt is fps if thats the kinda guy you are.

Your current set up is fine. I wouldn't worrry about changing just to get more weight. Accuracy is the most important thing, not arrow weight. Most women and kids hunt with less poundage and way lighter arrows than that...and they kill deer just as dead as the next guy.

You should be just fine with that set up.

That will be just fine to hunt anything with. They should have plenty of weight @ 386.
