I learned this the hard way

Last summer I went down to my range to practice. Took my bow out of the case, put arrows in the tube, put on my release,( but I didnt double strap it)nocked an arrow, attached my release, got about half drawn and the release came off and almost broke my bow arm. Learned two lessons. There are two straps on the velcro deals for a reason and there is a reason for the rule always nock an arrow and point down range before drawing.

Its quite imbarassing, but ive got a story to top it. Been bowhunting since 1983, was practicing with my buddies in 2008, each of us taking a shot before the next, and I forgot to load an arrow in my bow. first ever dry fire and i didnt even have an arrow in the bow as i was aiming and shooting it at the target. Did quite a bit of damage to the bow. It wasn't the proudest moment in my bow hunting career by far.

If you use a string/"D" loop, be sure to keep an eye on it for wear and tear as well. I noticed that mine was starting to frey a bit but did not fix it right away and it broke at about mid draw and my hand came back and whacked me in the face. Hurt like hell. Lucky not to break my nose or knock any teeth out. Just a tip!!!

I almost did the same thing Medic did not very long ago. A couple of buddies and I were shooting a small 3d course we set up. I drew back got a good hold on the target when behind me I hear, "you might score better if you nocked an arrow." I already had some pressure on the trigger of the release. That was a nerve racking let down. I also had a frayed D loop once that I didn't fix. While drawing back it actually pulled through the jaws of my release giving me a pretty good pop in the mouth.
