    Cement without water

Trying to add cement to a tub that’s full of rocks without mixing in the pasture
May empty a bag into the tub and haul a little water. Or Should I find a separate tub
And haul in some water to mix it?

Making an “anchor” for my blind.

Just dump the sackrete over the rocks. It will set up with the first rain

Thanks. This is under my platform
Won’t get a lot of rain but maybe enough

I bet you are talking about concrete. :-). I have always been one to mix concrete and it gives me angst when people set posts without mixing first; however, that seems commonplace these days. I would at least mix it.

        Edit:

I see you are putting it over rocks in a tub. I would still mix it. :-)

How many bags are you putting in the tub?

I've seen the trend of pouring in a bag and just adding a bit water around a fence post
i am a mix before I pour kinda guy... but, as they say to each his own.... good luck,

We do it like that in sand on the island, dump in the whole and get a bucket of saltwater and pour in there and cover it up. I've dug up posts for various reasons and you do lose a little bit of concrete in the loose sand outer edges, but the stuff around the posts were always solid and seems like most of the bag sets fine. I'd bet you're a lot better off in regular hard dirt and definitely fine if it's in a bucket or whatever.

I’ve never added water after setting a post with sackrete. Southeast Texas does have some moist soil though.

Two 5 gallon buckets of water is plenty, with lids so it doesn't slosh out. Dump some water in, then sakrete over the rocks and work it in with a piece of rebar or somesuch, a little more water. Once the rocks are covered, just put the rest of your sakrete in there still in the bag. Dump whatever water you have left over it, and walk away.

I would take a separate tub full of water if ya can. Dump half the bag of sackrete on the rocks, pour in some water, dump the rest of the bag and add more water.

I did it the hard way. Hauled water and mixed 1/2 bag at a time in a second tub. Then poured it over the rocks and rebar bracket. Will attach it much later with a cable and turnbuckle to that bracket to the center of the bottom of the stand platform.

Only 3 bags so it wasn’t too bad.

Thanks again for the advice and comments.

I set fence post mixing it first then realized it was too much work and just dumped the concrete in and added some water, the dumping and then adding water had much better results..

Did you pull the post up and beat the concrete off to Verify. Been in Commercial Construction for 45 years and never heard such crap.

Last bags of quick set concrete I used had instructions on the bag that said to dump bag in the post hole then dump water in.

I own a fence company and we set posts this way all the time. Not just straight concrete then water though. Add water to the hole, some concrete and jab/mix with a pole of 1/2 metal conduit. Add more water then concrete until desired consistency. Works very well and much easier than mixing each bag and pouring. Especially when doing a run of posts and keeping them in line.
