YJ rust repair

This is my first Jeep to own and now after researching the rear frame rails are a known problem spot. The driver side is worse than the passenger but I will be repairing it all. Rear cross member is rotten along with the rear body mounts. Figured I would bring y’all along.

I did that last year with my tj, still need to fix the body mounts on the cab itself but the work is well worth it

I'm done with that but I'll gladly watch you give us the fix.
My 95z71 had a similar cancer and I coated it w zeibart and sold it

Safe T cap is a good company and well made products but Amazon has cheaper prices for about the same results I did middle of frame, front control arms and rear as well

Also on OfferUp there was a rust free yj framein the Houston area for about $350

Had a few parts waiting when I got home today. Both rear frame rails and rear crossmember. Just have to figure out how to deal with the rear body mounts.

Slap some bondo on there and call it good.


Seriously, was the Jeep parked in Salt Lake for a couple years? That is nuts! I have built a lot of jeeps and I’ve never seen anything like that.

I was told by a mechanic to use an encapsulating spray on rusted parts. Turns rusty parts to original finish. I dunno haven’t tried it yet.

Some projects call for new tools. Going to build some new trailer ramps to test it out.

Yes it will mig,tig,and burn rods. Really impressed with it so far on wire.
