So last May, my son decided he didn’t want to drive the ‘97 Explorer I have in the driveway. Like all 14 year old young’uns from Texas, he wanted a truck. Since kids were out of school due to Covid. He started a business in the garage building torch burned flags. Kid busted his arse all summer and by August he’d earned enough to buy his first truck.
Tx_Hoghunter had an 83 Chevy in the classifieds so we went and looked at it and came home with it and he named her Dixie.
The project has been slow due to schedules, but so far we’ve put a new fusable link, new power steering pump and new radiator.
This weekend, we replaced the rotors and pads on the front (stil have to replace the drums and guts on the back brakes) and he started gutting the cab for the new headliner and carpet he’s ordered and has sitting in his bedroom. To save money, he’s only replacing the broken trim pieces. He’ll reuse the good pieces and paint it all to match. Still have to order the door panels and either find a bench seat or covers for the existing seats.
Here are some pics, I’ll try to keep this updated.
