    DIY Live Edge Dining Table

Moved into a new house this summer and figured I would make myself a live edge dining table. Looked at buying one already done up they were 3k-4K and thought that seemed really high but I see why now. Worth every bit of it for a quality one. Probably wouldn’t make one again. Got in a bit over my head but was able to pull through and get it all done. Below are some pics from start to finish. In all I’m about $750 into the table with legs. Kind of regret staining the table and kind of wish I kept it natural but I can go and resand/ finish at a later point if we get tired of it. Filled the cracks with about a gallon of epoxy. Slab is 7ft long 3ft wide, 2.5in thick red oak. It’s a heavy sucker for sure. Slab was $550, legs were $100, and spent about another $100 or so on epoxy, stain, a million sanding disk, and spray paint for the legs. Hope y’all enjoy!

Is the epoxy coating on the entire table or did you just fill the gaps? Getting ready to do bathroom counter but need to decide on a finish coat.

    Looks nice. Very unique.

Epoxy just to fill the holes. I used a stain oil based top coat to finish them out. 2 coats and sanded with 320 in between coats. Took it to 220 for the first coat on raw wood. Pretty durable finish.

Very nice piece of oak. Personally I would have thrown several bow ties in those cracks/checks in a contrasting colors, maybe maple or walnut.
