High rack

I'm getting ready to build a high rack of sorts. The top rail will be about 62" above the bed rails. Putting eye level just about 10' or so on my truck.

I'll be using 1.5" tubing and #9 3/4 expanded metal. The rack will be mounted on 3x5 angle iron, which will be bolted on top of the bed rails.

Any ideas or tips are appreciated.

My quick drawing. Seat would be mounted on cross piece on the "floor". The reason I put the ladder on the side and the gussets kinda high is so you have plenty room under it for coolers, animals, etc. The hook things are gun racks. If you want to get really creative, put a bar coming off the back with a boat winch on it to haul animals into the back of the truck.

The gussets being high like that, would it be for stability, support, or both?

I'm thinking about leaving the floor open with no mounted chair for versatility.

I know these can get pretty fancy quick (and heavy).

I guess both. Their purpose as I was thinking was for stability, but they do offer support across the length of the floor to keep it from bowing.

I got the steel today. Guy at Advantage Steel gave me some pre-fab gussets. Pretty cool.

Looks good. Glad you added gussetts on the bottom. I would wire a couple of these up there w/ aligator clips to the battery so you don't have to try to extend spotlight cords.

AggieHunter- You bet. I plan on putting several up there with a spare battery in the bed.
