    End caps for fire pit

I'm new to welding but would like to build a very simple fire pit to put in my back yard. Nothing too fancy, just a simple beginner project.

Any suggestions on where to buy an endcap - or whatever you call the repurposed bowl that you put your logs in?

    Thanks.

Look for a simi truck tire rim. They can be picked up at scrap yards and tire shops.

After googling tire rim fire pit, I see there are tons of ways to make that work.

Where are you located. Baker Tank Head has them. They are in north Fort Worth

Just so you know, most round ones are made from tank heads cut off of LP tanks. But they can be bought new, like the ones from Baker.

You might look for used or scrap LP tanks. Then you would have a body for a BBQ pit once your end caps are removed (next project). If you do go that route, be sure to purge the tank before cutting into it, unless it's been sitting uncapped for a very very long time.

If you want something different, you could order sheet metal already cut to parts so all you had to do is weld it up. There are a few places in Ft. Worth that will do that, if you know what you want cut.

Baker Tank has a scrap bin. You can pick them up cheap.

There’s a place in Ft. Worth that sells a kit to build your own, has the tank head, legs, etc. Let me search my old posts and see if I can find the name of the place.

                Found it:

Does anyone ever have concerns of what type of chemical or oilfield service these endcaps were in prior to being scrapped? The reason I am asking after working 30 plus years in refineries and chemical plants in some metals these chemicals are absorbed into them.
