      I’m starting mine today, I’ve got 4” c purlin but I’m doing stairs with a handrail for my 8 yo son. I think that angle will be fine

                    For the carpet you can cut your plywood down around 1/4”-3/8”, then wrap the carpet and staple on the backside to ensure it will stay forever.
