    Grill Table Question?

Saw the other thread on building a grill table and didn't want to hijack. I have been working on plans for a grill table for my Webber Kettle. I need to find out what would be the best way to insulate the wood around the grill to keep it from getting hot and catching fire. I have thought about doing the opening in an octagon and putting 2 layers of hardibacker on each side to help bridge the gap between the metal grill and the bare wood. Any suggestions?

1/2 inch air gap and set the kettle on tile worked for me.

They are insulated and should not get that hot on the outside.

I have a primo xl 400 and instead of buying an expensive premade table I ended up building one out of a stainless steel prep table. For my grill the outer surface can get up to 225 degrees under normal-to-hot cooking temps. So, I bought some rubber stuff called "trim-lok" to cover the edge of the metal where I cut the hole. Works great and gives it a real finished look. Just wish I hadn't slid the grill around on the table before it was built out.

Not the Webber charcoal grill I have. It will get hot on the outside.
