DIY Walk In Cooler

As we all know early season (Oct) hunting can be a reward but also a curse dealing with the venison and making sure it is cared for properly. I do not always want to process or drive to town when it is 90-degrees...so I decided to do something about it!

I started with a frame made out of left over angle iron and purlin:





Added some left over r-panel and installed an 8000 but Window Unit:







Added 3/4" play wood - 1" rigid insulation 1/2" plywood sandwich panels on the inside of the walls:



Installed hanging hooks and CoolBot:





Sealed any daylight with spray foam, finished the inside with Food Grade Polycrylic...and the box gets to almost freezing inside. Tested on a 75+ degree day this month.

Also bought a used stainless sink and pour a slab at the cleaning station:



Good to Go!!!

Is that a regular window unit AC that will get temp down to 34?

I cannot remember how much the CoolBot was...but you can look it up online. I think around $200. The metal frame and panels were left over from the Cabin Build project I did...(See link: http://discussions.texasbowhunter.co...d.php?t=555768)

The insulation was around $40
The Window Unit was $130
The Poly was $15/gallon
The Plywood was $100

So with the CoolBot...around $500.

It is...but will only do it with the CoolBot. It over rides the controls. It wont do it without!

odd question but what is the black hose that I saw running into cooler? didn't see it in any pictures on the inside, only the outside. great build btw

I used 3/4 Ply on the floor, then 3/4 rigid insulation and 3/4 treated floor. All sealed with Polycrylic.

I took a window unit to an a/c repair buddy and he put a low-T thermostat in it . It did the same thing .
