    dearborn heater question?

have a couple of older Dearborn heaters that were in my grandmothers house and we now have in storage, I was wanting to know how to change them over to propane from natural gas? any pros cons would help out.....thanx. plan on using them in a shed/cabin build after deer season or buy a window ac/heater

They work well on propane. I have three. A guy with northwest propane in Lewisville Texas converted mine. However they don't do it anymore. He changed the orfice out then tweaked the air flow. I have a hearthglo that I use in the garage. Can't beat these little heaters.

I'm not positive about the Dearborn but in furnaces it's just like he said change the gas to air ratio in some way or another.

Any propane place should have the new orfice and show you how to change and adjust air flow. Most don't do it for you anymore. Its no biggie.

They guy that converted mine would not touch it unless it had the data plate attached showing the btus. Based off of that he had a conversion chart. Unscrewed the small brass orfice and replaced.

As mentioned above, check with your local propane company. They should be able to at least point you in the right direction. If you are going to use it in a small cabin, you won't need a window unit with heat.
